Saffron, after Cubefall

There are just a few candles flickering in Urquhart's room; the rest is darkened and quiet.

He comes in backwards, pulling Saffron with him, and kicks the door shut in a hurry.

"I'll get it," she volunteers, hopping off from his lap and moving to answer the door in his shirt alone.

"What'd you order?"

She brings back the covered tray, setting it down and lifting the lid.

"Bread and sauces to dip in," Urquhart says, shrugging. Actually, it's fluffy oriental wheat bread and several different spicy meat sauces, yoghurt with herbs, seafood in garlic, and chickpea sauce, with a large jar of cool peppermint tea.

He's hungry. And he likes spicy things.

She hasn't even realized how hungry she is until her stomach starts to growl, and brings the tray to set it up between them, sitting down indian-style on the divan.

"God, that looks good - and I'm starved," she murmurs, grabbing a piece of bread and dipping it in one of the meat sauces.

"So am I," Urquhart says. He pours tea for them both, and then follows suit, changing quickly between spicy and bland, layering tastes with each bite of bread.

"I'm hungry like a wolf!"

"The changes seem to come with their own residual side effects," she notes between bites.

A bigger appetite for food, for one, but also an appetite for the body, as well.

Urquhart laughs.

"And we ran and ran and ran," he says. "We used our own energy, after all."

"Mmm," she hums in agreement, around another satisfying mouthful of bread.

"Lots of running."

[scots_wolf]

"And tumbling on the ground," he adds, grinning, and tears off another piece from the big loaf.

"And hunting," she says, helping herself to some of the yogurt.

"We enjoyed ourselves."

[scots_wolf]

"We did," Urquhart says, drinking peppermint tea. It's sweet and strong and very refreshing. "That was something!"

"Well, some of it will have to wait until next Cubefall."

She eyes him over her tea.

"But not all."

[scots_wolf]

Urquhart nods. If they're both here for next Cubefall, that will be the longest he'd have been in the same place, and with the same people, ever since leaving Castle Urquhart for the crusades.

"No, there's some things we can do in human shape, unlike eating raw bloody demon bunnies, which I'd rather do without, unless I'm a wolf," he smirks.

"Oh, don't remind me," she groans, the mere thought of eating an animal freshly raw not sitting very well in her stomach.

It had satisfied the wolf part, at the very least.

"I'm going to prefer things very much cooked for now."

"And with herbs and spices," Urquhart agrees.

[yosafbridge]

"Mmm, yes," she says, taking another deliciously seasoned bite of seafood.

"This is heavenly."

[scots_wolf]

"Yes, they make good food here," Urquhart says, leaning back and giving her a deep look.

She catches him watching her, giving him a look of her own.

"What is it?"

[scots_wolf]

"People in the orient imagined their paradise just like this, you know," Urquhart says, smiling.

Who wants 72 virgins if he can have a handful of really interesting women, one of them Saffron?

Come to it, who wants 72 virgins if he can have Saffron, full stop.

"Just like this?" she asks, eyeing him, her own smile playing at the corners of her mouth.

"You mean you, me, a tray of good food and a room to enjoy together? Sounds like a pretty simple version of paradise."

"A lovely place with no war and lots of water and greenery, good food and drink, and lovely women," Urquhart says. "But yes, basically, just like this."

[yosafbridge]

"You need to take another trip to my world, then," she adds.

"It has all of those things. People don't bother with war on a planet for thieves."

[scots_wolf]

"Oh yes, I'd like to," Urquhart says. "Any work, or just play?"

[yosafbridge]

"Why don't I see if I can work out a little bit of both for us?" she offers, nibbling at another piece of bread.

"I imagine I could find a way for your talents to be put to good use."

[scots_wolf]

"That would be fun, like hunting together," Urquhart says. He fishes a bit of meat from the bowl with a small piece of bread, and eats both.

"Hunting in a different way, perhaps."

She's filled by this point, and leans back against the divan, stretching her legs out.

"But still hunting."
